Appraisal & Testing
Goldworks has a range of gold, diamond, and gemstone testing equipment on sight which will be used by our trained staff as necessary to determine assessments.
The first step is identifying the required service:
General Identification: If you are not sure what you have or whether it is worth pursuing formal documentation, bring it in. Goldworks will provide, free of charge, basic testing and a verbal general assessment of most types of fine jewelry. Including a “ballpark value” based on comparable retail prices of similar items in our showroom. Not an offer to buy, not to be used for legal or insurance purposes.
This initial step can usually be completed without leaving the item(s) as long as time allows.
Offer to Buy: If your intentions are to sell your jewelry, Goldworks actively buys fine jewelry, diamonds, and gemstones and would be glad to make you an offer. Please see the Jewelry Buying page on this website for further information.
Insurance Appraisal: Formal document signed by GIA Graduate Gemologist, on our letterhead with picture, listing retail replacement value. This value does not represent an expected redeemable amount if the item(s) is sold. Typically used for jewelry items intended to be added to an insurance policy.
Cost $150 for 1st item + $75 each additional (up to 6 total). Bulk pricing also available for larger quantities
Items will need to be left for approximately 7-10 days to complete
Fair Market Value Appraisal: Formal document signed by GIA Graduate Gemologist, on our letterhead with picture, listing fair market value. This value represents the amount that can be expected to be redeemed if the item(s) is sold. In most cases Goldworks will purchase the item(s) at the appraised fair market value if desired, assuming equal conditions. Typically used in legal proceedings regarding distribution of assets.
Cost $150 for 1st item + $75 each additional (up to 6 total). Bulk pricing also available for larger quantities
Items will need to be left for approximately 7-10 days to complete
If items are eventually sold to Goldworks the charges are normally waived/credited
Advanced Gemological Testing: If the jewelry in question has a diamond or gemstone requiring advanced gemological laboratory testing, Goldworks can facilitate through our relationships with some of the world’s top laboratories such as GIA and AGL. These gemological reports are typically used to confirm the type, quality, treatment level, and origin of fine diamonds and gemstones. The reports themselves do not contain an item value but are often referenced in appraisal documentation and can provide confidence to a potential interest buyer considering an offer.
Cost and time varies depending on the item, information required & laboratory.
All items requiring to be left will be kept on premises, fully insured to an agreed upon value, unless otherwise stated. Any required shipping will be insured to an agreed upon value.
